Want a career where you're serving the public and making a difference? Consider being a Missouri Highway Patrol trooper.
Now, more than ever, we need good law enforcement officers.
The patrol is a premier law enforcement agency, and becoming a trooper isn't easy. However, the agency is seeking applicants for its 111th recruit class, and it's accepting applications from people of all backgrounds.
Testing will be done in nine locations throughout Missouri. Those who successfully complete the tests are eligible to continue in the selection process for the recruit class that starts training Feb. 1, 2021. The application deadline is Oct. 2.
Candidates must have a minimum of 30 college credit hours from an accredited college/university or have served in any component of the United States Armed Forces, including National Guard, for a minimum of two years with an honorable discharge if separated, or a minimum of two years' experience as a full-time POST-certified peace officer when recruit training begins.
Certain tattoos now are allowed.
Starting annual salary is $49,536. After three years of service, the trooper salary is increased to $52,200, with the possibility for further advancement. Other benefits include group health insurance and contributory retirement.
The selection process is a multi-phase testing procedure including: written examination, physical fitness for duty assessment, polygraph examination, background investigation and oral interview board. Written and physical examinations take place in each troop area across the state. After a conditional offer of employment, the applicant must successfully complete a medical examination (including vision and hearing), a psychological examination, a psychological interview, drug screening and final applicant review.

Law enforcement is under fire in some communities, due to the actions of a few bad cops. However, law enforcement is essential. It's an admirable career, and good recruits are always needed: those who show everyone dignity and respect and enforce the law without fear or favor.
If you believe you have what it takes to serve in this capacity, consider applying as a way to better yourself and your community.
