Three BJP workers, who have been named accused in facilitating the murder, have been taken into custody. It is not confirmed if the accused were directly involved in the murder. Police believe the accused had received prior information regarding the murder.

SDPI has alleged that it is BJP workers behind the act. Saluhudheen was returning home with his sisters from Koothuparamba to Kannavam. When the car reached Chunda, two of the assailants who came in a two-wheeler hit the car and they fell down. As Saluhudheen stepped out of the car, they attacked him. When he tried to get inside the car, they hacked him and then dragged him to the opposite side of the road and left the spot.
