Your Opinion: Capitalizing on a tragedy - Jefferson City News Tribune

Dear Editor:

It is amazing how climate alarmists will try to capitalize on any tragedy and turn it into an opportunity to promote their agendas. The tragedy in Australia is a prime example. Those who have been following what has been going on in Australia, even before the fires began were not surprised.

The green movement in Australia did much the same thing that was done on public lands in the U.S. The only difference is that they used the government to push their agendas on private landowners as well. So farmers and landowners were no longer allowed to remove brush and the buildup of plant litter on the bush floors (referred to as fuel). Aborigines in Australia like the Native Americans did controlled burns to remove fuel while it was still low and the Aborigines did it during the winter rainy season so the fires were slow and kept low. The Green Party passed measures to stop this and protesters would block the landowners, preventing controlled burns claiming to protect wildlife. Now we see the results. It is always left out, both in the Amazon fires and the bush fires, that they were either purposely set by arsonists are accidentally set by careless people with cigarettes and camp fires. Most in Australia where deliberately set and arrests have been made. As far as the fires being made worse by climate change according to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, Australia from 1900 to today has steadily been getting wetter.

Australia’s climate like the U.S. is cyclical with dry years followed by wet years followed by dry years. 1974 was the worst year on record for fires in Australia burning 15 percent of Australia compared to only 1 percent burning this year. That is when scientists were telling us we were heading for an ice age and Australia would have never ending drought. Following the fires it rained so much in Australia it created an inland sea. This year is no different, he predictions of climate scientist said they wouldn’t see rain till May at the latest, even if then. However, even before the fires were out it began to rain and flood. So much for scientific predictions. True the fires were human caused and made worse by man’s actions but not because of climate change or CO2. Those are the facts.
