Dear Editor:
We all take for granted laws that protect the average American worker. These laws are taken for common, often without knowing the labor of the person deserving the credit for fostering them. A case in point that follows, is the work of Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
The "Consumer Protection Agency" was a project fostered by Warren and actually contested by Sen. Mitch McConnell. Republican McConnell thought we had too many governmental agencies at the time and even now our current president thinks the same way. Eliminate manufacturing and businesses from governmental control to create more jobs and profits for all is their view. The only problem is the profits mainly go to the top 1 percent and not in wages or insurance protection to those doing the labor.
The laws that Sen. Warren sought were to place a rein on collection agencies from harassment of debtors; rein in "pay day" loan institutions from charging exorbitant interest rates; and put credit card companies on hold from also charging excessive interest rates.
The reader of this information may never have had a problem with the three "money maker" industries mentioned, but should certainly know someone who has.
Warren may not end up the Democratic nominee for president in the upcoming 2020. But she, without a doubt, has proven that she represents a political party that is for the people. That is the "common people" who carry this country's American work ethic every day and deserve equal representation in law making. Laws not just designed to enrich the already rich, but instead to those that are striving to leave some financial reward for those that follow.
