Reader Opinion: Reality Check - Brainerd Dispatch

First, I would like to recognize my daughter, Erin, for her recent work on a COVID ICU in Houston, Texas.

In the appendix to the Report of the Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident (1986), Noble Prize Physicist Dr. Richard Feynman stated:

“For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled.”

Have Americans come to believe their World super power status and advanced medical technology makes them any less immune and vulnerable an epidemic such as the Corona virus?

Should our national leaders across the political spectrum be making excuses or point fingers just to promote their personal agenda and jockey for position in the November elections?

This crisis is the greatest threat to our future since the 9/11 attacks. Those enemies though were human with evil ideology. This virus is microbial without regard to race, nationality or economic status. It is unprecedented and unpredictable.

The battle is being fought not only on a physical basis but also in the emotional and spiritual realm. Let us use our intellectual capabilities and psychological aptitudes to combat it. And trust in a Higher Power to grant us the serenity to accept the things that cannot change, courage to change the things that can, and Wisdom to know the difference. So when this situation has passed, we can look back knowing we have learned and changed for the better as individuals and a society.
