Dear Editor:
What are the most obvious personality flaws of President Donald Trump and his followers? Let’s start with “words” that describe, then their definition. What do you call a person who never admits even one mistake? You describe then as a narcissist. What is a narcissist? A person who is addicted to excessive interest in or admiration of themselves.
What do you call a person who repeatedly allows a narcissist to get their way? You call them an enabler. What is an enabler? The descriptions follow.
1) Enablers avoid conflict to keep the peace. An example is Trump’s White House staff.
2) Enablers think the problem will improve, given time. Things will get better with another four-year term.
3) Enablers take on the responsibilities of the addicted.
4) Enablers repeatedly come to the rescue of the addicted one. Always excusing their behavior or say “he’s just acting.”
5) Enablers do whatever it takes to protect their addicted loved one from pain. Always blame it on “fake news.”
6) Enablers treat the addicted person as a child.
7) Enablers are always willing to give “just one more chance,” then another chance, and another, and so on.
Do we now have a reasonable explanation for the actions of both Donald Trump and his followers. Judge for yourself.
