Dear Editor:
May I share an opinion? I believe that everyone should wear homemade cloth masks in public. It won’t replace the “6 foot” rule of separation, but it will decrease viral spread. If everyone wears masks, there will be fewer folks infected with COVID-19.
A mask gives us some protection, but also protects other people. We may not think we have the virus, but up to half of infected people don’t feel sick. We might spread illness even if we don’t feel bad. Even with a mask, we need to keep a safe social distance from others, wash hands frequently, etc.
The Center for Disease Control agrees that we should all wear masks. Their website has information including mask-making instructions: https://ift.tt/34PiZ7i. Using homemade cloth masks allows greater safety without taking supplies from medical workers and first responders.
This is a great community. We can wear masks to protect each other. Fewer infections mean a shorter quarantine and a quicker return to normal.
