I have known Paul Dunn for many years and have a great deal of respect for his intellect and many of his comments in his Pilot articles. I have not always agreed with his views but considered them to always be very well-thought out and presented in an orderly and understandable manner.
His recent article in The Pilot regarding the Given Memorial Library is right on. For years, the village has been held hostage by bureaucrats in the National Park Service for fear of losing our landmark status.
Almost any suggestion to provide an improvement to the village was met with disdain and disapproval by NPS along with threats of losing our status. Who cares? Why should we continue to live in the past and not improve our village just because someone in an office in Washington decided it was not proper?
Let us take charge of our own affairs and do what is right for our community without fear of some stranger in Washington disapproving. Let’s move on and do what is right for us.
