Editor: I have learned that I cannot speak freely with my family as I remember my parents entertaining and having discussions on politics.
I learned current events in real time. My father was a history teacher and there were always newspapers, magazines and books. When I was 4 my family was visiting Washington and saw Bobby Kennedy on the White House lawn walking with another man. We ran up to them. Bobby said he had a sister-in-law with my name. I forgot to curtsy and I was told about it. I still have the magazine that he autographed.
My mom told my dad that Bobby looked so sad. Even at that age I knew why. The only time my father cried was when we sat together watching the funeral of John F. Kennedy.
Imagine a time when a history teacher teaching current events is told by an administrator to not use the president’s name when teaching about the Capitol invasion or as some call it, the invitation to come to the Capitol.
Imagine a sister-in law telling you that you are inappropriate in speaking to your niece about politics.
Imagine a neighbor who tells you to prove that a Capitol policeman was killed and you cannot use mainstream media as your proof.
Former President Donald Trump is not Abraham Lincoln. He is a chameleon and an actor. He was a Democrat when it served him and his father. His father’s real estate empire was financed by the Federal Housing Administration for beginning in the 1930s.
Trump became a Republican to fill a void that is a constant reminder of our ugly, dark past of division, hate and racism. He was elected because of us and he was not reelected because of us.

Editor: Imagine reading this headline today: “Congressional member challenges electors in state won by 30 points.”
Can you imagine what CNN, MSNBC and this newspaper would say if that occurred in 2021? What would Twitter say? Would the major corporations stop making campaign donations?
Probably not. However, that headline could have been written in 2017. That’s right, a Democratic congressional member objected to the electors in Alabama in 2017. President Trump won Alabama by 30 points with no accusations leveled that anything untoward took place during that election. That’s because this was a blatantly political move and no one in the media said a word.
The actions of House Democrats who objected to the electoral vote in states won by President Trump in 2016 were not considered outlandish. Big tech did not kick them off social media. The cancel culture did not try to silence these individuals. Why? Because they were against President Trump.
Fast forward to 2021 when members of Congress challenged the certification of electors in Pennsylvania, where the race was decided by about 80,000 votes, along with other states. A number of Republicans raised questions about the actions of Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf, the secretary of state and the Democrat-controlled Pennsylvania Supreme Court to allegedly tilt the scales in favor of their preferred presidential candidate.
The hypocrisy of Democrats, big tech and the media knows no bounds.

Editor: It is a shame that spectators could not flock to President Joe Biden’s inauguration as they have for past swearing-in ceremonies.
It was partly due to the former president’s rhetoric and disdain for democracy. I was always taught about respect for my fellow man. For a sitting president to show such lack of respect is appalling. What is even worse is the summoning of white supremacists and fascist groups to march to the Capitol and start an insurrection. That lies on the hands of the 45th president and officials stains his legacy.
As a citizen I respect other citizens’ views while holding my own. We can debate, but it should not divide us. Trump not only divided a nation but created chaos. He has played to dictators, stolen children from their parents at the border and praised white supremacists by stating that there were “very fine people on both sides.” Who in their solid, normal frame of mind does this?
The worst part is, while not conceding defeat he clearly lost his words. His rallying cries created a disillusioned mob that caused an insurrection on Capital Hill, which is sacred government grounds.
There were things he did that were good for our nation. Yet, if you can’t see the forest for the trees as to the ongoing bad, I truly wish you well.
