WELLESLEY, MA — Two Wellesley organizations were awarded grants from the Community Fund for Wellesley, a town fund of the Foundation for MetroWest.
The grants were awarded to the Wellesley Health Department and the Wellesley Civil Discourse Initiative to help with the COVID-19 vaccine rollout and civil discourse among community members.
"We are proud to serve as a resource to our community. These two grants will help continue to move Wellesley forward in a positive way by supporting these two critical initiatives", said Michael Stephens, grants chair for the Community Fund for Wellesley.
The Wellesley Health Department will get ten iPads through the grants. The iPads will help health officials quickly and efficiently mobilize vaccine efforts, and be ready to get vaccines in arms. The iPads will be used to record and track vital information.
"The iPads will be incredibly helpful as we navigate a new system to set up and operationalize COVID-19 vaccination clinics in Wellesley," said Ann Marie McCauley, Health Department Nursing Supervisor.
The second grant will support the Wellesley Civil Discourse Initiative. The initiative provides formalized methodology to assist communities and institutions to have healthier, more complex, more inclusive conversations about polarizing differences of values, beliefs, and identities. The initiative is already underway with two free events scheduled for the public.
"We're so grateful to the Community Fund for Wellesley for supporting this new initiative on civil discourse for the town," said Lise Olney, member of the Select Board and the Wellesley Civil Discourse Planning Team. "This grant will fund training for ten community members so they can learn how to facilitate conversations about tough topics. We've all seen how controversies can create big divides in our community and these trained facilitators can be a great resource to help build understanding, even when we disagree."
