In a world where each person is unique and different from one another, how can it be said that all the members of a given group of people are the same? “All people of this skin color, or that ethnicity, are…” “All homeless people are…” “All people of this political party are…” Or the increasingly popular slur “ACAB.” The editor of this fine paper will likely not permit me to write the full meaning of that acronym, but I will push the envelope: It means “All cops are b——s.”
Were I to replace “cops” with almost any other profession, group, or classification of people, I would, rightfully, be called anything from “rude” at the very mildest to unspeakable insults utterable only by the woke Left.
To be clear, I am not making a statement one way or the other on police, police policies, or the overall character of the people working in that profession. My commentary is instead on the degradation of our discourse in America from respectful adults disagreeing justifiably on differing approaches to public policy. Perhaps I am only imaging that such a time has ever existed in this country – but in any event, it seems only to have gotten worse over the years as partisan politics has turned citizen against citizen while the elite grow more powerful off of the division and disorganization of the people to whom the system was supposed to belong.
My question is – when will we say “enough is enough?”
