Re: Leaders sow division in a divided nation — Feb. 22
Spot on. Our political leaders need to stop driving wedges with their words. But that doesn’t leave the rest of us off the hook. If we truly desire civil discourse, we need to take individual responsibility. As satisfying as it might feel to fire a caustic quip or share a demeaning meme, we need to resist the temptation or take responsibility for sharpening the wedge. Let’s exercise restraint and civility. Let’s impress upon people of our own political persuasion that ‘getting in digs’ will just drive us deeper into a pit. In short, let’s demonstrate leadership and urge our elected leaders to follow.
