Just watch
We must fight to save the historic wall on Sheridan Road. Historic structures like this add to the charm of our city. But the powers that be in Waukegan have never cared about charm. This wall is even located within the Waukegan Historical District. Even the toothless Historical Society and Historical Commission seem to have bought in on this travesty. The fact is, it’s going cost more to tear down the wall than to repair it. Someone’s going to benefit from this, and it isn’t going be you or me. Oh, we’ll give away free bricks? Throw the people a bone so they don’t complain. Just watch, first they’ll just tear down the wall. Then, in a year or two, they’ll be tearing down the whole Lincoln Center building.

Basic drivers ed
I would like to say kudos to whoever wrote “How to enter a circle” in TOTC. It is spot on. Whoever said you don’t have to stop at a yield sign is a knucklehead. Yield means you slow down. If it is clear you go. If someone is coming, you stop. Yield doesn’t mean you can cut in front of someone. It’s basic drivers ed I learned in high school.
Leave it vacant
Imagine a rental ad like this: “Spectacular lake views, underground parking, security guards at the front door for your safety, rent is a third of your income or, if you don’t work, it’s free. Don’t worry about repairs, the landlord has to fix all your damage at his expense.” This is not a fantasy, this is the situation at the Lakeside Towers in Waukegan. This building has been a blight on the city ever since it was built. No downtown activity is safe from the residents, and police have all they can handle with the out-of-control residents. I suggested to an alderman that the city demolish the building and he said, “What will we do with all of the concrete?” The problem is not the building, it’s the people living there. If the city can’t demolish it, leave it vacant and the city will be a much better place.
Show some love
Lake County News Sun
Twice-weekly
News updates from Lake County delivered every Monday and Wednesday
I just read that there’s been another shooting victim, this time an 18-year-old in North Chicago. As usual, the press release reads, “Anyone with information is asked to contact the North Chicago police department or leave an anonymous tip with Lake County Crime Stoppers.” Unfortunately, even though more than a few people must know who committed this heinous act, they won’t speak up. Why is this continuing slaughter of young men, mostly African American and Hispanic, being tolerated? If you know who the perpetrator is but are afraid to come forward, at least call the anonymous tip line. Show some love for your community.
Be funny
Most kids and people who are always joking around, being goofy and silly — including many comedians — were bullied. If you can’t hid and cry, be funny. They might just laugh and stop hurting us.

Total breakdown of civilized society
Can you believe that the morons in Springfield have passed a bill that allows criminals who have committed forcible felonies to not be detained until trial. This is insane. These criminals will continue to prey upon more victims when they are released from custody. This is a total breakdown of civilized society. Every one of the morons who voted for this monstrosity need to be voted out of office in November.
Just a circus
For a village that supposedly prides itself for its retail, Gurnee’s Mayor Hood cannot even get the sign in front of Panera Bread repaired after seven months. Just a circus for an administration.
