Understanding anti-Semitism and freedom of discourse - Toronto Star

University of Toronto must act now to uproot anti-Semitism, Feb. 2

The virulence of anti-Semitism cuts to the bone for me; there are very few Sztainboks left in the world today as a result of the Holocaust. My Jewish grandparents immigrated from Poland to South America before The Second World War; their remaining family members perished.

This is why I am appalled to see the Toronto Star publish a column (Mostyn, Kamenetsky, and Tenebaum), which weaponizes anti-Semitism in order to quell political and academic discourse.

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of anti-Semitism has been rejected by Jewish organizations (including Independent Jewish Voices Canada, Jewish Voice for Peace and Peace Now).

The IHRA definition stifles criticism of the state of Israel and undermines the struggle against anti-semitism.

No to the IHRA.
